0324. Tim Buckley
Happy Sad
Second day in a row that there is a second album on the list that's better than the first. Tim Buckley's previous entry wasn't a whole lot to get excited about, but this one? Heck yes!
Inspired by Miles' Kind Of Blue (even lifting a melody from All Blues to his Strange Feelin'), these for the most part long and mesmerizing songs are a different brew than the aimless sex-funk tracks of Greetings From L.A. and also the first time he was the solo lyricist for a whole album. And, well, lyrically it works kinda good, but it's in how the song fuses and clashes with the music the magic lies.
The only exception is Gypsy Woman which loses focus and meanders off in melismas and repetitions, but up till then it's good listenin'.
