0267. David Bowie
"Heroes"
Referencing and paying tribute to NEU! Bowie named this album after their track Hero from NEU! '75, released two years earlier. And unlike Hunky Dory, Young Americans or Ziggy Stardust this is more of a split album (lot of that going round):
The A-side has a couple of good rock-tracks and then "Heroes" (which is probably one of the top two tracks from Bowie), but I got to wonder what happened to the B-side. Almost entirely instrumental (apart from the silly final track The Secret Life Of Arabia) it starts okay with V-2 Schneider, but Sense Of Doubt's attempt at setting a mood or creating ambience kind of falters. I somehow think the blame is to be put on Brian Eno as he co-wrote and produced a couple of the tracks.
At the end of the line the two things that speaks for this being an album you go to hear is that:
a) "Heroes" is a damn good song
b) Most of the tracks were featured heavily in Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (We Children from Bahnhof Zoo)
