Ambient 1: Music For Airports
Well, this was dreamy...
Ambient 1: Music For Airports is a very interesting (and surprisingly relaxing) album. Not the average three chord pop and definitey not anything you'd throw on the turntables for getting the party started, but instead slow compositions intended to make the listener feel more comfortable. The title is the mission: creating an ambient atmosphere for the listener (wether you're in an airport or not).
No matter how boring it seems on paper and while at times it sounds like he's just plucking notes at random the long slow loops of seemingly unconnected tracks weave together very nicely. If you want to experience as much as possible of this music it might be a good idea to get some expensive headphones a nice recliner and a dark room. Then drop the needle on the record and just drift away.
But if you (as I) sadly don't have the opportunity to try out that setting it'll do just fine to press play and lean back in the couch for a minute - before you know it you might just have listened to it all...
Giving a genre its name and at the same time putting out a fourty-two minute album with four tracks isn't something you do every day, so kudos to Mr. Eno.
