0385. Johnny Cash
At San Quentin
At San Quentin being one in a long line of gigs and albums establishing the mythos of Cash as a jailbird and patron saints of prisoners everywhere, Cash is Cash, talking shit with the audience (no, I didn't even consider writing "a captive audience", I'm not that much of a douche) who laughs and cheers (also hisses and boos at the guards when their presence is noted).
By the way: the concert's also notable as it was captured on film by British Granada TV who were doing a special (now available on DVD, or, you know, youtube).
With the ever popular I Walk The Line and A Boy Named Sue bringing down the house, there's of course one song that gets even more accolades from the prisoners - the premier play of San Quentin was so appreciated - almost causing a riot - that it was instantly reprized (with an equal measure of cheers from the inmates).
Also: check out Wanted Man (co-written by Bob Dylan, as it's one of the best songs here.
