On their third album (their fourth on this list and I guess I don't have to explain that Sonic Youth are well into the alternative scene) there are more than a couple of hints of the out-there-ness that we've seen just a couple of releases later.
There's a couple of things that makes this one of the better Youth albums this far and for starters it's that there's a more unified sound - you can almost believe they were aiming at making it cohesive - and also that all the vocals fit the music whether it's Moore, Gordon or Ranaldo singing (which makes it differ a whole lot from Goo).
Even though I like this album I got to question the editor's idea here as it seems more like wedging in the whole discography of his favorite band than selecting for the ones that everyone must hear. It's like I's make a list made up in part of every Faith No More album (cause, come on - you can't really count every single album a band's released as historically relevant (okay, some exceptions may occur)).
