0114. Sonic Youth
Dirty
The seventh studio album from this crew gives us an hour divided into sixteen tracks of alternative rock. This of course means that it goes from the highs in 100%, which didn't turn out to be the breakthrough hit the record company wanted but instead just is damn good song,to the low of Nic Fit, a cover so malplaced on this album I got to wonder how bad the three tracks that didn't make it in the final cut were (they had recorded nineteen before setteling on releasing sixteen, almost losing guitarist Lee Ranaldo in the process). (On a sidenote: Dirty is produced by Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana's Nevermind and later on founded Garbage.)
Feedback-laden tracks mix with more mellow songs and the band takes turns singing (well, three of them does at least) and generally the tracks where Thurston Moore's got the mic are the better ones.
