0174. Ramblin' Jack Elliott
Jack Takes The Floor
So, in 1001 Albums You Must Hear... he's just called Jack Elliot, but I guess he'd already got the Ramblin'-part of the name since the previous album, recorded with Woody Guthrie, was called The Rambling Boys.
From the listen of it the album's recorded in pretty much one day, just him and his guitar, singing, playing, talking between tracks, bringing in Woody on a song. Nothin' fancy, just a man doin' what he was born to do and letting you know what state life seems to be in right now.
This ten-inch vinyl inspired everyone from Dylan to the Stones (maybe some more than others) and is a good example that music doesn't have to be heavily produced to sound good.
It's American folk with just the basics. Nothing more is needed.
