0136. Fleetwood Mac
Tusk
Tusk, the follow-up to Fleetwood Mac's break-up album, Rumors, is a less bumpy ride and (not surprising) a double album (they've been known to do that, you know).
It feels as if they should have taken a longer break between albums to focus on the songs, or at least cut about half of 'em to generate an album without as much filler. As it is now I think side four contains the most interesting songs (amongst others the title track with it's marching-band).
It was, at the time, the most expensive album ever recorded (costing one million dollars) and while it sold about four million it was a way lower number than anyone expected after the predecessor's success. Warner Bros. blamed the band, the band blamed a radio station (RKO had played the whole album before it's release thus allowing piracy in the form of home taping - cause dude, it's killing music). Obviously there's no way to really be sure, but as I said: about forty-five minutes shorter would have been greatly appreciated.
