0057. The Clash
The Clash
This is another album released in the year I was born (yes, that was yet another ego-reference), but unlike Fleetwood Mac's carefully arranged and polished release this is an explosion on eight legs equipped with an assortment of middle-fingers aimed at The Man.
It's a great collection of punk tracks (some reggae- and 50's rock-influences are noted) dealing with civil unrest, oppressive government and unemployment (and condoms).
The most (well, moe like the only) annoying thing with this album is I can't sing along to White Riot without feeling a bit silly (I'd look very malplaced in an all white riot). But in stark contrast I just abut die a little from joy when the first lines of Police & Thieves are sung (even though the cover "destroyed Jah's work" according to Junior Murvin - which could be taken as proof that practical atheism can sound very good)...
