0993. The Adverts
Crossing The Red Sea With The Adverts
Damn, this is one of the best punk debuts I've heard!
The Adverts weren't only young punks, but smart punks too.
And they could play to boot (no matter what they claim in
album opener One Chord Heroes)!
It's a massive feat of melody, intensity and thought-through lyrics, along with an unexpectedly clean sound, and it's just so damn cool I can't choose a track to recommend.
Cause whether it's the no life of No Time To Be 21, the one minute, forty-four second burst of Bored Teenagers, or album closer Great British Mistake, it's high quality British punk.
Unfortunately the band went bust after their second album as their manager accidentally got electrocuted and a couple of by then former members (guitarist and drummer) sued for the name.
