0970. The Band
The Band
An eponymous second album is maybe not as seldom seen as you might think, but still something that raises an eyebrow now and then.
In this case it's The Band who follow up their debut with an album that might not be just as good as the previous, but still has a lot of nuggets. Like the groove in Up On Cripple Creek which is so sampleable I'm surprised that only Gangstarr and the Beastie Boys seems to have used it.
The best track on the album is a song lamenting the fall of the Confederate states ending the U.S. civil war, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
It's Americana longing for a time long since past.
