Eponymous debut. Young man with a guitar. Folksy. All of the above could be warning signs, and indeed - there are some genre stereotypical moments on this album, but the majority of it is just fine.

Also, you could hear this album as an ode to the free spirit, the rambler that goes where the wind takes him, or you could hear it as a man dodging all kinds of responsibility and nagging girls to sleep with him.

But exceptions do prevail: Needle Of Death, about his folk singer friend who died of a heroin overdose, is rightfully Jansch's most recognized track, but it's the closing instrumental Angie that sticks in my mind - it's a (…well, "catchy" is the wrong word, but as I can't find the right one at the moment we'll go with it, okay?) catchy and intensive it's the best ending the album could have had.

A couple of years later he co-founded The Pentangle and continued putting down serious footprints in the British music scene with them.
