The fourth time Leonard Cohen shows up is with his debut. And I realize that this is the only album of his where I haven't really got a gripe with any of the songs.
Cause while I like Cohen better over the bigger live productions, it still doesn't mean that the sparseness of this is bad. It's even maybe a little bit to lush at times (again with the background singers!). But that's just details.
Leonard's signature lyricism is already in place with tales of crashing love and bleak humour like the lines from One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong: "I lit a thin green candle to make you jealous of me, but the room just filled up with mosquitoes - they heard that my body was free"
