0891. John Coltrane
A Love Supreme
Now, when it comes to devotional albums, we've seen a couple pass by, but I must say that this is the greatest of them.
Coltrane's praising of his god takes the form of a four-movement suite of seriously high-level jazz, where he shows how a saxophone is best handled and the rest of the quartet help him build the shrine.
It's moving, from the rhythmical Acknowledgement to the wordless recital of Psalm, and there's no wonder A Love Supreme has stuck on a bunch of "best albums" lists.
Listening to this I've come to the decision that when this list is done I will take time getting my head around (instrumental) jazz, cause right now I feels like I'm mixing a single malt with soda instead of getting the full flavour.
