Soul Mining
For anyone just wanting to read one line The The is simply a slightly different The Fall. For the rest of you an explanation will follow.
This is the debut of Matt Johnson's The The, a pseudo-group mostly consisting of Matt and a studio (the band proper had played together for four years before everyone had dropped off), and as such it displays the same problems as The Fall's albums: the need for thee synergy that at least one more set of ears can bring to the music.
What makes this post-punk Briton better than the other post-punk Briton is that on this Matt's a better lyricist with a better voice and also a bit of better production.
But then again, on the follow up, Infected, the quality's dropped immensly.
