0860. Buck Owens And His Buckaroos
I've Got A Tiger By The Tail
This one goes out to everyone complaning that new music all sounds the same: the Bakersfield Sound is as genre-defining as it's limiting, but similar to a lot of them there newfangeled sounds good musicians still manage to make each song a bit unique (or at least special).
Basically there's three versions, up- mid- and downtempo, with its own instrumentation (like a bit more slide guitar on the midtempo and a bit more picking on the uptempo) and all of the songs on I've Got A Tiger By The Tail fits neatly in there.
And as I'm a sucker for the Bakersfield sound I of course like this, Buck and his Buckaroos know what they're doing. Well, apart from the cover of Chuck Berry's Memphis, where the band doesn't relly know in which direction to go.
But for the most parts it works and the lyrics are humorous, like in Wham Bam, the love 'em and leave 'em-track Buck wrote together with his then-wife Bonnie.
