0842. The Cult
Electric
This has to be one of the best crafted rock albums of the last three decades. This of course is due to Rick Rubin being hired to just that: give them that rock sound instead of their more gothic previous style.
The things that ruin the experience are (in order and not all):
- What the hell's he's singing in Peace Dog? I know The Cult's not any form of high-brow lyricism, but dude.
- The cover of Born To Be Wild. If that was a decision on Rubin's part, then he's off the list of fascinating producers for all time.
But apart from those few (or maybe not so few after all) mishaps there's that massive ore of rock that runs through Electric.
(I wonder where on the timeline for the evolution of the black metal logo font The Cult is - origin of the species or just one of the earlier forms? Probably the latter.)
