Another album that gained its success from a single that wasn't on the release, the Lemonheads' fifth release It's A Shame About Ray wouldn't have made it past the local record store if it wasn't for Simon And Garfunkel.

Yes, the Lemonheads owe their fame to their cover of Mrs Robinson, but as that's not on the original, I won't review it here.

Instead: here's a few notes about the album.
The profoundity of repeating "a ship without a rudder is like a ship without a rudder's like…" for a few dozen bars in Rudderless does perhaps pass me by.

The Americana-scented Hannah & Gabi is nice, but that's about it for the album: it never goes beyond "nice".

It's an album for college rock radio listeners who dream of having deep and spontaneous conversations with their very own manic pixie girl who'll set them free from their 9 to 5.

The singer, meanwhile, was starting down a road leading to smoking crack.
