0816. Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim
Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim
After literally waiting over a year The Girl From Ipanema finally shows up on the list!
I don't know if it was a signal that he wanted to re-brand himself
as a more mature artist (even thoughIn The Wee Small Hours showed maturity enouch)
or if it was just a move to not have his shorter name overshadowed
by the collaborating musician, but for this one Frank Sinatra suddenly
became Francis Albert Sinatra.
Antônio Carlos Jobim on the other hand remained Antônio Carlos
Jobim (though without the circumflex).
This is their first collaboration, and together with an orchestra conducted by Claus Ogerman they perform a delicate bossa nova suite where Jobim's songs share space with melodies by Cole Porter and Irving Berlin (also a tune from the musical Kismet appears).
Arranged to suite Sinatra's voice, the music completes it very smoothly and it's a nice lounge listen.
