0780. Culture Club
Colour By Numbers
Holy crap, this is Eighties! And it's also pretty aggressive! Thing is, noone expects Boy George and Culture Club to be anything but camp, but when they fire off Church Of The Poison Mind it's just impressively hardcore.
Well, "hardcore" not in the sense of distortion and screaming, but in the sense that they go flat out and attack the church and its homophobia (among other things). Also cool that it doesn't seem to have got the same negative attention as when Sinéad tore up a pic of the pope a couple of years later.
The most widely recognized hit off this album is of course
Karma Chameleon, but as for the rest of Colour By Numbers,
it's fairly easily forgotten.
A thing I keep wondering about though, is the use of a gong
in the finale of Stormkeeper. Just seems out of place.
