So, here's the debut that launched a remote island as the place for hearing cool music.
And yes, it's Birthday that's the takeaway from Life's Too Good - it's the track that put The Sugarcubes (and Iceland) on the popular music map.

A catchier song is F***ing In Rhythm & Sorrow, but with a title like that it wouldn't have come near the charts in those days I guess. Also: while catchy, it isn't as interesting as Birthday, where you can hear Björk's signature singing (and as I, as well as everyone else, focused more on her talents than the band leader's tension grew within the band).

The antiteistic Deus sadly isn't as good as XTC's Dear God, so we're still waiting for an atheist pop-anthem that's on the original release to appear on the list.
