Surrealistic Pillow
The big mistake here is not having Grace Slick singing every song. But as she (and Skip Spence) was new to the band I guess she was still on the sidelines for a bit.
This of course makes some of the tracks just become mainstream counterculture pop (with My Best Friend as the most obvious example), but the memory of them fades away when you listen to Somebody To Love or the other great song off Surrealistic Pillow.
Cause when it comes it's militaristic and menacing and like a slowly invading army it simply takes over the listening to such an extent that on the first listen I don't even realize the next song passes and the album ends (on the repeat-listen I concentrate hard to hear Plastic Fantastic Lover and realize it wasn't really worth the effort).
Yep, can't say anything but that White Rabbit is a magnum opus of the psychedelia scene and it damn well holds till this very day and beyond.
