Kick Out The Jams

Releasing a live album as your debut? That's a pretty daring move, so you'd better deliver.
And deliver the MC5 does.

It's like a revivalist meeting where they fire up the masses with both preaching and music. But this isn't your usual gospel but instead marxist protopunk with Black Panther affiliations (their manager was the founder of the White Panther Party). Or in plain English: these ain't your regular pot smoking hippies.

Most known is the title track, which has a whole slur of different interpretations of its meaning, but the riot of Motor City Is Burning (where they actually turn down the tempo a bit) and the desperate I Want You Right Now are (along with most other tracks on the album) worthy of mentions.

It's not the tightest of bands as they're out of tune at times, but what they might have lacked in precision they made up for in energy. You quite possiby could run a small city if you hooked them up to a generator.
