0731. Soul II Soul
Club Classics Vol. One
This album is more of a sampler for the parties that the Soul II Soul soundsystem were doing than an album proper.
With danceable hiphop/soul beats they stormed the charts with a couple of hits, but unfortunately there's of course also house in this. The most annoying example is Happiness (Dub), which I wouldn't call a dub at all.
The second "unfortunately" I have to shuck in here is that the big hit Back To Life is only in an acapella version here. Something that, while good for the DJ's who bought the album and easily could make remixes, is a bummer for the non-DJ crowd who wanted to make a playlist for their party at home.
While it's a very good acapella (Caron Wheeler's a great vocalist), it's by nature not that danceable.
