0694. Roni Size / Reprazent
New Forms
So, here I got the choice between the vinyl and the CD version and you know what? For this one I'll always choose to listen to the double CD while the quadruple or quintuple LP would make a nice addition to anyone's crates.
But seriously. This is two hours and thirteen minutes of high quality drum'n'bass (actually, the running time is 2:13:37 or in geek speak 2 1337, i.e. too elite - not a thing I think Roni actually had in mind at the time, but who knows) while the LP:s are just about an hour each, so the choice is obvious.
With a fantastic combination of acoustic and electronic elements, this is one hell of a dance music album. The lead instruments are double bass and sampler, and the genre is drum'n'bass Jungle music. And you'd think that after two hours or so it'd be too repetitive, that Roni and crew had come up with all they could and then started to backtrack a bit, but no. This is as headnoddingly good at the end as in the beginning - even fifteen years after its release.
