0690. Beck
Sea Change
I suppose this was the album reviewers said that Beck had
"matured", "grown up" or something along those lines, but
what I hear is perhaps best explained by the track Lost Cause:
he's tired of fighting. Regarding this album I'd say he's tired
of fighting to be wierd as this is the most homogenous and, well,
"mainstream" album he's dropped this far on the list.
It's very melancholic both in lyrics and sound, and doesn't seem like a Beck album at all.
That doesn't mean it's not good though, cause this is enveloping me with a mellow melancholy. It's the folk album you didn't know he'd make and the proof that broken heart only can express itself through country music (well, that and the blues of course). The main inspiration for the lyrics was the breakup with a cheating fiancée, so no wonder it's with one foot firmly on the night side of life.
