0655. Pixies
Doolittle
Going from the third to the second album from the Pixies is also a step back in pop-development. There are no as catchy tracks as Bossanova's Velouria, but instead a more even album.
Kinda cool, but still more interesting as the inspiration of greater bands than in their own right.
Lead single Monkey Gone To Heaven contains numerology, environmental concearn and lines referenced in the Bloodhound Gang's Fire Water Burn - a song I guess more of you have heard than have heard the Pixies' track - and the perhaps most famous track, Debaser, has given name to a chain of swedish rock bars. Apart from that, Debaser's actually an interesting song with its references to Buñuel's Un Chien Andalou (An Andalusian Dog) [fact check: the original lyrics also namedropped Prince's protegé Apollonia].
