0591. Ozomatli
Street Signs
Around ten years after their formation, the Los Angeles multi-culture outfit Ozomatli dropped their third studio album. An album which was later on rewarded with a Latin Grammy and to my untrained ears, a lot of this sounds very much like every latin hit I've heard since Y2K, but in most cases better.
Going for a groove and a rhythm in every track and managing
quite well, as well as mixing party anthems with activism
(they're part of the American anti-war movement, among other
things) isn't an easy feat, but they got it.
Sadly it doesn't leave much of a lasting impression on me. Maybe
it's a bit to slickly produced, or I just don't have the
Latin flava in my ear, but something's amiss.
Still, naming themselves after the Aztec god of dance and music was a very descriptive move, cause if anything, this is an album to shake your booty to.
