0577. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Music From The Penguin Cafe
This actually is two bands on one album and only a third of the tracks are by The Penguin Cafe Orchestra. But as the other group is Zopf, consisting of the P.C.O. plus a vocalist and a ukulele...ist(? a ukulele-player, okay?), it's probably nothing to get hung up on.
This is their debut, and it's a bit different from anything
else here. First and foremost the Orchestra's pretty
damn near a real orchestra in instrumentation and composition
(by this I draw the line at how few they were).
Chamber music with a twist of jazz.
I like it, but I don't really know why this made the list.
If I'd take a stab at it I'd guess it's because the album's
produced by Brian Eno. And that's good to
know, cause this is some of his more interesting work, giving
credence to his elated musical status.
Also cool that they played their first ever gig as warm-up
to Kraftwerk.
