0571. The Undertones
The Undertones
The Undertones' eponymous debut shows they had found their form
early on. I think it misses a bit of edge, though. It can be
found in Sharkey's voice the times he snarls a refrain (and his
quaver is still not as annoying as it could be), but for
the most part it's a bit nicer than it it ought to.
The lyrics, written by everyone but the singer, are teenage
boys' views on the world, but don't fret - there's a couple
of really good songs here.
First track Family Entertainment, for one, is a catchy little
ditty until you listen to the lyrics, and Girls Don't Like It
is a pretty perfect pop piece, so I can't complain.
They managed to keep it tight and short with their fourteen
songs in under half an hour.
