0546. Red Hot Chili Peppers
Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Speaking of people benifiting from Run D.M.C.'s crossover hybrid success, the Red Hot Chili Peppers might not have been as popular if Raising Hell hadn't made such a splash (also: you just know they've taken a lesson or two from Parliament). The semi-naked quartet's fifth studio album is a seriously funky bit, and leagues beyond their last entry on this list.
If I'd have to pick just one of the songs, I'd go for
Breaking The Girl (and hope that noone is making a
psychological assessment based on the tracks I highlight)
- a melancholy, yet funky track I can't seem to let escape
my mind.
Even though they manage to get a bit too silly / obnoxious
on tracks like Apache Rose Peacock and Sir Psycho Sexy
(even though the latter actually ends in a pretty cool way),
their massive hits Give It Away and Suck My Kiss, along
with their heroin magnum opus (and gigahit) Under The Bridge
puts the album firmly into the vinyl canon.
Simply put: if you haven't heard it, you've got to hear it.
(Also: this is produced by Rick Rubin.)
