0537. David Bowie
Aladdin Sane
So, David Bowies sixth album (fifth on this listing), released just after Ziggy and sounding very much as the continuation of that album [fact check: Bowie summed it up as "Ziggy goes to America"]. And not to sound jaded, but I'm starting to feel that my relationship with David's beginning to move into purely academical territory, cause this doesn't do much for me.
The cover of the Rolling Stones' Let's Spend The Night Together doesn't add anything to the song, but strips it of its primal urgency. But, the album's got a redeeming stomp in The Jean Genie (continuing his obsession with Iggy Pop), a pretty blunt rhythm'n'blues-based track released as a single (and also a hit).
The last track, Lady Grinning Soul, veers off enough from the rest of the album to open my ears again and again. A nice way to end it, actually.
