0523. The Boo Radleys
Giant Steps
No, this isn't the John Coltrane album, but it's named after it. That's some mighty big shoes to fill and well, "reaching wide" is probably how to sum up this album in just two words. Cause the Boo Radleys play everything from straight up pop to near-noise. I.e. a huge stride away from their previous shoegazer / britpop.
They didn't shy away from songs that could alienate,
like the trippy Thinking Of Ways, but managed to
place'em back to back with flute filled chewing-gum
pop like Barney (...And Me).
I'm positively surprised by this album as I mostly
knew their name from their hit Wake Up Boo!, from
the album after this one.
So, today we're celebrating the start of the third year of 1000 Albums + Some More by being amazed that The Boo Radleys were more (and better) than just that very annoying hit.
