0512. Red Snapper
Our Aim Is To Satisfy
This was a nice surprise indeed! This act's very disparate
genre-hopping doesn't water down the sound, but makes
for an enjoyable hour caught deep in the headphones.
Mostly instrumental, with some vocal ovelays, they navigate
dub, jazz, funk and well, okay, disco, to make a leftfield
album with beats that rival the best.
Their background in the acid jazz scene makes itself remembered
when The Rough And The Quick starts, as it's an air of house
surrounding it (also a definitive air of sex). But, with the
groove of Shellback and the denseness of The Rake (I swear
- if you plugged this one into any standard DJ-equipment
you could probably use it to tear down buildings), this
makes me want to want to delve deeper into their discography.
Thumbs up for Red Snapper!
