0510. The Strokes
Is This It
First mission when delving into this album is: find out
which is the original cover - the one with the pelvic
area or the one with the swirly thingy?
Of course its the one with the bum as the prude version
is the one for the U.S. release, a version that came out
a a couple of months later as this American band's debut
first was released in Australia logically enough.
The Strokes' garage-rock sound and blend of "can't be bothered to care" and ennui in the vocals struck a chord in the music press, hipsters and hipster-wannabes all over and, yep, it's a charming album.
And while it's good for many spins on the turntables, the
problem is that after enough times you get just as bored
as Julian sounds. The songs lose their charm and you kinda
start to forget why you liked them in the first place.
But up until that point, it's a good album.
