0443. Tito Puente And His Orchestra
Dance Mania, Vol. 1
This is an album that could have been recorded almost any time the last 60 years as it's set in a time-tested genres of latin jazz and mambo. And if it'd come in the late eighties I don't think it would have been noted on this list at all, but as it was released to great acclaim in the fifties, the Afro-Cuban rhythms are a landmark, paving the way for the later international success of the Buena Vista Social Club.
Tito's driving percussion could put a strut in anyone, and for anyone with the skills (i.e. not me) it's a great dance album, with Puente and his Orchestra laying down some real nice tracks.
