Shaka Zulu
Last time we heard from these guys it was together with Paul Simon on his Graceland
album, and striking while the iron was hot, they released Shaka Zulu - a collection
of re-recordings of their older hits, and also produced by Simon.
Singing in the Zulu isicathamiya and mbube styles they formed back in the sixties
and chugged along pretty nicely up til the Graceland collaboration, with a couple
of international tours and minor hits.
The isicathamiya, while pleasant on the ears, provides too little friction in the long run, so it would have been a nice touch to have a mashup between it and some other style just to mix it up a bit.
Maybe more suited for the church than for my stereo, but nevertheless a nice sounding album.
