0423. Jacques Brel
Olympia 64
So, about a hundered albums ago I wondered when Jaques Brel was
going to show on this and you know what? Here he is!
Olympia 64 is his second live album from the Olympia concert hall and contains a selection
of the chansons performed (later on re-released as Enregistrement Public à l'Olympia
1964 with the full set list - also, of course, the 1001 Albums-book mixes 'em all
together, presenting the tracklist and cover image of the l'Olympia-release instead
of Olympia 64 (I'm just gonna go ahead and trust
Allmusic
and Discogs
on this one, mmkay?)).
And I once again wish to be an omniglot.
The audience adores him, his delivery seems impeccable (he's got a dramatic nerve that punches through the language-barrier quite easily), and the band plays as the band should, so as a performer I'll give him thumbs up anytime.
