0421. Skunk Anansie
Post Orgasmic Chill
You know, I bought their first album and tought it was great (haven't listened to it for a long, long time though), but by the time this one came around I heard Charlie Big Potato (lead single as well as first track on the album) and was all but "meh" about Skunk Anansie. Not cause of them selling out or anything like that (even though they got on a Swedish love songs-collection with Weak, as if that was their fault), but because they seemed to stagnate too quickly.
Don't get me wrong, some bands manage to do the same stuff they've always done and
never quite sound as if on repeat (hi there, Motörhead, glad you stopped by!), but
as I listen to Post Orgasmic Chill it's as if they realized that Paranoid And Sunburnt
was as good as they'd get and then decided to copy it over and over.
Only problem? They duplicated the wrong parts.
This seemed to dawn on them too as this was their last studio album for a over a decade,
until Wonderlust (which I've not heard) was released just last year.
And no matter how much they tried to spice it up with the occasional break beat, it's still not enough to get them on a top thousand (and then some) list of albums you've got to hear.
