American Pie

Apart from the title-track with its rocking sound (and subtly funky bass) this is nostalgia composed by a singer/songwriter who we'd probably never heard of if it wasn't for that one song.
But, there's not just a one-track album, cause the track Vincent (on later releases with the addition of Starry Starry Night in the title) is a beautiful song about the suicide of a dear friend - or that's what the feel of the song is at least, when in reality it's about Vincent van Gogh.
And it's the lyricism of that song that makes this album worth a closer listening than just playing the big hit.
