0390. The B-52's
The B-52's
For the first two and a half minutes there's just a
hypnotizing repeating squealing organ pattern and
congas backed by drums.
Then, in comes the nasal vocals of Fred Schneider
describing ...a girl from Planet Claire?
And the wierdness continues like that for the rest of the album. 52 Girls is a recounting of girls names (although just 25 or so of them) and Rock Lobster is an encounter at the beach with a rocking crustacean. With semi-minimalistic riffs with shouted vocals and an impeccable sense of kitch, I guess this is what the movie Mars Attacks would sound like if it was just a little bit more eccentric.
And while not all tracks are as great as Rock Lobster (like the cover of Downtown that's, well, I guess the less said about it the better, but I kept waiting for it to end), they're still very B-52's and very cool.
