0370. The Flying Burrito Brothers
The Gilded Palace Of Sin
For a counter-culture band the Flying Burrito Brothers sure were conservative. Playing country with a whole lot of tears in beers and lamenting women who didn't know their place Gram Parson and crew not only influenced generations of alternative country, but also managed to create two tracks that weren't the same old: My Uncle and Hippie Boy.
They end their respective albums sides and deal with dodging the draft as well as [this upcoming fact brought to you by Wikipedia] the '68 Democratic Party convention riots (something the lyrics does not explain, but just segments from the hippie kid talking to the narrator, to the hippie kid being dead). Of the two, My Uncle is the better by far (as well as the best track on the album).
The Gilded Palace Of Sin is another debut that maybe not sounds so revolutionary today, but still - you can't deny its impact when there's a successful genre hailing from it.
