0305. Jethro Tull
Aqualung
And thus we're back in the weird world of prog rock. Here's Jethro Tull: a band that might be primarily known among the populace as "that band with a flutist" but are so much more. Their electrified folk prog took a more acoustic turn on this album, their fourth since they formed four years earlier, but that doesn't mean it's any kind of soft-rock as they still chisel out a heavy groove.
The weak part of this is (as so often with the proggers) the lyrics, which at some times are just silly (parts of Aqualung) and others are way over everyones head, but generally this is a far cry from stuff like The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and Tarkus as it's both listenable and cohesive.
Oh, and it's also not a concept album. In spite of the the A- and B-sides seeming to have themes the songs aren't meant to interconnect in a significant way - at least according to flutist / singer Ian Anderson who wrote the whole shebang.
A pretty good album actually.
