0248. Black Flag
Damaged
On their debut album Black Flag succeeded in sounding like every single band that got inspired by them and in that aspect it's a kind of template hardcore punk, just like Minor Threat when they upped the ante three years later by going Out Of Step.
Well, to be fair Damaged isn't as generic as the first impression hints at, but actually has some songs that hasn't been copied to death (still copied, though).
T.V. Party is a classic but the title tracks(?) Damaged II and Damaged I seems to have been forgotten (okay, maybe it's just me who've missed the hype) and should be heard more.
The most amazing thing about this album though is that Rollins actually needed vocal coaching from the other members, seems almost like pissing in the wind since there's less singing than shouting and screaming into the mic (he's gotten better since).
It's not an album I come back to so very often, but it's an interesting listen.
