0189. Screaming Trees
Dust
The final album in Screaming Trees career as a grunge / psychedelia / hard rock-act went out on a limb incorporating more of a folksy sound (at least according to the reviews circulating the net).
In spite of being lauded as the best album of the year by Kerrang! magazine it just seems like ordinary, decent rock to me. Sure, it's got a world-music vibe to it with sitar, tabla and djembe, but it still is very polished and ...nice.
It might be due to Mark Lanegan's kind of timid voice or maybe there's a need to blame the producer here. With a rougher mix it might have been a better album. I'll probably get back to Dust a couple of times, but always with the feeling that it could have been so much more, so shame on you, Mr. George Drakoulias, shame on you!
