The Marshall Mathers LP
So, Eminem's third album (yes, third, his crappy debut Infinite's all but forgotten) sold nine times platinum in the states and that means people buy albums for the singles. For the most part it's the same tiresome misogyny and homophobia (from the same guy who claims he didn't know Elton John was gay), but once in a while there's a song that actually hits it out of the park.
The strongest track is of course Stan that, with it's near-perfect storytelling of an obsessed fan, sent chills down my spine the first time I heard it. Now, ten tears down the line, it's still the best song on the album. Unlike some tracks that should have been left in the studio, like Marshall Mathers (the beef-track to ICP), Remember Me?, Kim, pretty much all of the skits and Amityville - or rather: every goddamned guest appearance (okay, the guests on Bitch Please II actually deliver pretty good, but still).
Huge bonus points for the line "'Will Smith doesn't have to cuss in his rap to sell records' - Well I do, so fuck him and fuck you too", though.
