Cypress Hill
Huh, okay... so this is horrorcore according to some sources.
I'd have labeled it gangsta, turned up the volume and called it a day, cause I don't really see where this connects with acts like the Gravediggaz, but the overlaps with N.W.A. are abundant - the general mindset and lyrical content are more thuggish than occult. While hating cops, loving weed and claiming to be the world's greatest mack might not be the most original, they've got a definite edge: the sound! Damn!
DJ Muggs' production is amazing. Beats with a built-in bounce, but without getting into the hip-pop genre this an album full of heavy crowd-movers. Throw in the nasal twang of B-Real's rap and Sen Dog's rough hypeman act and this debut had nowhere else to go than double platinum, weed'n'all.
