0162. Iron Maiden
Number Of The Beast
Bruce dickinson's first outing with Iron Maiden coincidentally also is one of the best features of the new wave of British heavy metal there is, combining his storytelling with the band's expert and furiously paced metal.
It's an album that makes me think of the clichéed roller coaster reference, but here it rings true with one minor difference: this is a roller coaster that never slows down, but instead gains momentum right until the end. Even the (comparatively) slow Children Of The Damned and feels more like free floating in mid-air than a halt in the tempo.
The weakest track is Invaders, but it's compensated by anthems like The Prisoner, The Number Of The Beast and Run To The Hills.
