0159. Talking Heads
Fear Of Music
First time on the list, third album they released, Talking Heads was the New wave-band in the break between seventies and eighties. Most seem to describe them as "eclectic" and if they'd started today instead of backinnaday I could put a pretty penny that they'd been labeled a hipster band - to everybody's dismay.
With the jittery, nervous vocals and the disco-influenced rhythms it's music that's perfect for alienating the mainstream audience and when the album opener's got dadaist lyrics mixed with West African rhythms and a sprig of funk it's a nice way to alienate the not so mainstream too (well, at least the one's who listen to lyrics).
But in spite of all the changing of pace and genre-fusions the album feels like a very even one and though infused with darker themes than on their previous releases it still managed to attract a larger audience. Probably just due to it being a good album.
