0124. Throbbing Gristle
D.o.A: The Third And Final Report Of
Things I haven't tried before, chapter XIV: Listening to a whole Throbbing Gristle album.
Even though I've always found them (or rather their mythos) fascinating I've never quite got around to it. But here goes...
It's screams, muzzled ...lyrics(? well, voices at least) and what could best be described as a modem backfiring. It's conversations, chants (and according to wikipedia there also should be answering machine-death threats, but sadly not on this release), but generally every voice is so deep in the mix I have a hard time making out what they say.
At times there's also quite good industrial music like Dead On Arrival (apparently a live-track).
Some of it is quite charming (Hometime), some of it is plain wierd (I.B.M., Hit By A Rock) and some of it is what I think of as industrial noise music (Walls Of Sound).
Not for the average music listener, for sure.
